Holistic Horse-Keeping Consultations
My Holistic Horse-Keeping Consults are designed to empower horse owners to adopt a horse-first approach to their care. In a world where information is at our fingertips, the days of doing things "just because that's how it's always been done" are behind us. Traditional horse-keeping practices often fall short of meeting the needs of our horses, and with so many resources available, it can be overwhelming to know where to start making changes.
Whether you're a new horse owner looking for guidance or an experienced owner feeling the need for a fresh perspective, these consultations are tailored to help you navigate the complex world of horse care. At the heart of our work is a commitment to always prioritise your horse’s well-being.
I understand that every horse, owner, and situation is unique. That’s why my approach is grounded in empathy, understanding, and compassion. Together, we’ll explore what feels right for both you and your horse, while also taking into account your environmental and budgetary constraints. While the goal is always to create the best possible outcome, even small improvements can make a big difference in your horse’s life.
The Horse-First Approach
My approach is built around creating a species-specific lifestyle for your horse, where their basic needs are met so they can thrive physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We begin with the essential pillars of friends, forage, and freedom. From there we will deep-dive into what this really entails and how we can address these needs in your horses daily life.
Meeting Basic Needs Before Expecting More
If we’re not meeting our horses’ most basic needs, how can we expect them to do anything beyond merely surviving? How can we expect them to perform, whether in work, training, or just in their day-to-day lives? Horses, like all animals, are complex beings, and their physical, emotional, and mental well-being are all deeply interconnected. Only when their foundational needs—such as social connection, proper nutrition, and the freedom to move—are met can they truly thrive.
When you begin practicing holistic horse-keeping, you may not see overnight results (after all, true change takes time), but the benefits will speak for themselves. Your horse will begin to settle more naturally, and improvements will become evident in their behavior, health, and overall well-being. It's not about quick fixes; it’s about setting your horse up for long-term success and allowing them to truly thrive in every aspect of their life.
Collaborative Support
Together, we’ll take a thoughtful and open-minded look at your horse’s current care setup, exploring simple, sustainable ways to enhance their well-being. While I’m not an expert in every specific field, I’m here to guide you through the process, offering support and actionable steps that make sense for both you and your horse. If we reach a point where specialised knowledge is needed, I’ll connect you with trusted professionals—whether it’s a hoof-care expert, bodyworker, or equine nutritionist—and help you navigate those conversations.
We’ll work as a team, always keeping your horse’s needs at the centre, and I’ll assist you in asking the right questions and considering all the options available. If something isn’t clear, we’ll dig deeper and make sure you have the information you need to move forward with confidence. Together, we’ll develop a practical plan that works for both you and your horse.
HOW IT WORKS
I offer both in-person and online consultations to suit your needs. In-person consultations are available in the Canberra area and surrounding regions, while online consultations can be done from anywhere, regardless of location.
Intial Consultation
Pre-Consultation
Before we meet, I’ll ask you to complete a short questionnaire to better understand your horse’s current care and goals. This helps me tailor our session to address your specific needs.
During the Consultation
Initial consultations are typically around one hour long, though the focus is always on the quality of the session, not the clock—so if we need a little more time, that’s perfectly fine. In-person consultations will take place with your horse in their home environment. Online consultations can be done via phone or video call, depending on your preference.
Post-Consultation
After our session, you’ll receive an email summarising what we discussed, along with an actionable plan moving forward and a list of recommended resources.
Follow-Up Appointment
A 30-minute follow-up is included 2-4 weeks after the initial consultation. This is your chance to ask any questions, revisit goals, and ensure you’re staying on track.
Regular Consultations
Once you’ve had an initial consultation, we can schedule regular check-ins to continue supporting your horse-keeping journey. Depending on your needs, there are two options for ongoing sessions. A half-hour consultation, available online only via phone or video call, is perfect for quick questions and follow-ups. Alternatively, you can book a one-hour consultation, either online or in-person, for more in-depth discussions, questions, and planning. Both options offer the flexibility to fit your schedule while ensuring continued support for you and your horse.
